Interim Controller | Hybrid | Long-Term Contract Engagement
Location: Rockville MD | 2 days onsite weekly
A growing, mission-driven organization in the financial services sector is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to provide strategic financial leadership during a key transition period.
This individual will oversee the organization’s accounting and financial operations across multiple entities while ensuring strong internal controls, accurate reporting, operational scalability, and executive-level financial insight.
The ideal candidate is a highly analytical, systems-savvy accounting leader with deep GAAP expertise, strong ERP experience, and the ability to operate as a strategic reviewer and advisor to leadership.

Financial Leadership & Operations
• Direct accounting and financial operations including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and cash flow management
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes across multiple entities
• Ensure accuracy, integrity, and governance of financial data across ERP and reporting systems
• Oversee financial statement preparation, consolidations, and executive reporting
• Drive continuous process improvements and scalable internal controls
Forecasting, Budgeting & Analysis
• Lead budgeting and forecasting initiatives across departments and business lines
• Provide variance analysis, financial modeling, and strategic insights to leadership
• Develop forecasting frameworks to support operational and financial decision-making
• Support executive leadership with KPI governance and financial performance metrics
Compliance, Audit & Controls
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
• Manage external audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting
• Oversee internal controls and financial governance processes
• Coordinate with external partners including auditors, banks, and third-party vendors
Leadership & Systems
• Mentor and support accounting staff while operating primarily as a high-level reviewer and approver
• Optimize ERP and financial reporting systems for efficiency and reporting visibility
• Partner cross-functionally with leadership teams on strategic financial initiatives
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• CPA strongly preferred
• 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• 5+ years leading accounting operations and teams
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and multi-entity consolidations
• Experience managing audits, compliance, internal controls, and cash flow forecasting
• Advanced ERP experience required, including NetSuite expertise
• Experience with Planful or similar cloud-based FP&A/reporting tools preferred
• Strong executive communication and presentation skills
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments while managing multiple priorities
