Financial Controller

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a leading manufacturing operation to identify a Financial Controller for their Cape May, NJ facility. This role is a key member of the plant leadership team and will oversee all financial activities, drive operational performance insights, and ensure financial accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate is hands?on, collaborative, and experienced in a fast?paced manufacturing environment. Financial Controller Location: Cape May, NJ Department: Plant / Operations Purpose The Financial Controller oversees financial operations for the business unit, ensuring accuracy in reporting, effective budgeting/forecasting, operational support, and leadership for the plant's finance team. Essential Duties Financial Management & Reporting • Manage daily General Ledger activity and ensure accurate posting. • Research accounting issues and resolve discrepancies. • Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting. • Coordinate month?end and year?end close. • Prepare timely monthly financial statements and related journal entries. • Maintain account reconciliation schedules and ensure alignment with sub?ledgers. • Ensure correct coding of plant expenses. Cost Accounting & Analysis • Compare standard vs. actual production costs and analyze variances. • Provide performance insights to Operations and support factory productivity initiatives. • Assist Plant GM with financial and operational analysis. Capital & Compliance • Review and approve capital project CERs. • Forecast monthly capital spending. • Prepare regulatory reports. • Settle maintenance work orders. Leadership & Cross?Functional Support • Supervise the Cost Accountant and Assistant Manager of Inventory Control. • Oversee Accounting, Inventory, Logistics, and HR administrative functions. • Assist with vendor setup, expenses, and approvals (POs, invoices, requisitions). • Adhere to safety, GMP, and internal policy requirements. Food Defense Responsibilities • Follow all Food Defense Plan requirements and participate in training. • Report contaminants, suspicious activity, or policy violations immediately. • Ensure all personnel follow GMP and uniform standards. Work Environment • Split between office and factory settings. • Exposure to noise, dust, odors, fumes, and oils. Physical Requirements • Reaching, walking, fine motor skills, talking, hearing, vision, and repetitive motions. • Sedentary work with occasional standing/walking and up to 10 lbs of force. Required PPE (Plant Areas) • Hearing protection, hair net, beard net (if applicable), steel?toe slip?resistant shoes, bump cap, smock, and face mask. Education, Experience & Skills • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field. • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing cost accounting experience. • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and communication skills. • Advanced Excel skills; SAP experience preferred. • Strong organizational and time?management abilities. • Prior management or supervisory experience required.
