Controller

Chesapeake Search Partners is partnering with a growing privately held organization in Crofton, MD to identify a Controller to join its leadership team. This is a hands-on leadership role within a multi-entity environment for someone who enjoys owning the accounting function, working closely with executive leadership, and improving financial processes within a growing organization. The Controller will oversee the full accounting function, including month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting operations. This role works closely with the CFO and plays a key part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and reliable financial data to support decision-making across the business. Key Responsibilities: • Lead month-end close and oversee accurate, timely financial reporting across a multi-entity structure • Maintain and review reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules • Oversee cash management activities, including daily positioning, bank activity, cash forecasting, and liquidity reporting • Support budgeting and forecasting processes through accurate reporting and variance analysis • Partner closely with executive leadership and operational teams to support financial visibility and decision-making • Oversee audit coordination, compliance requirements, and internal control processes • Provide oversight of accounting operations and support development of accounting team members • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen efficiency, controls, and reporting accuracy Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Controller or similar leadership experience • Strong experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and multi-entity accounting environments • Experience in operationally driven environments with strong exposure to cash management and financial analysis • ERP systems experience required; NetSuite experience is a plus • Strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and ability to operate independently in a hands-on environment
