Construction Project Manager – Energy Services / Mechanical & HVAC Location: Washington, DC area Type: Direct Hire Openings: Multiple A growing organization in the energy and infrastructure industry is seeking experienced Construction Project Managers to support large-scale energy efficiency and mechanical construction projects throughout the Washington, DC region. This role is ideal for professionals with strong backgrounds in HVAC, mechanical systems, infrastructure modernization, and complex construction project management who are looking to work on impactful sustainability-focused projects. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Washington, DC. Limited remote flexibility may be available depending on project phase and business needs. Position Overview The Construction Project Manager will oversee energy transformation and infrastructure modernization projects from implementation through completion. This individual will manage day-to-day site operations, coordinate field teams and subcontractors, maintain project schedules and budgets, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements. This position offers strong long-term growth potential within a rapidly expanding organization focused on sustainability, energy efficiency, and complex facility modernization projects. Key Responsibilities Project & Construction Management • Manage all phases of construction and energy efficiency projects • Oversee on-site project teams, subcontractors, and field personnel • Supervise Associate Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications • Manage project schedules, subcontractor coordination, procurement, and bid processes Safety, Quality & Compliance • Enforce safety standards, compliance requirements, and quality control procedures • Support implementation of site-specific safety programs • Oversee project commissioning activities and monitoring/verification protocols • Ensure subcontractor compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and project standards Financial & Risk Management • Track budgets, expenditures, subcontractor draw requests, and financial reporting • Identify project risks related to construction, schedule, pricing, technical issues, and performance • Proactively mitigate project challenges and develop solutions to maintain project success Client & Team Leadership • Maintain strong client relationships and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, operations, and construction • Assist with project development and implementation support activities as needed Qualifications Required • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field • OR equivalent combination of education and 15+ years of relevant experience • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction project management or project engineering • Experience managing projects involving: • HVAC systems • Mechanical systems • Building controls • Electrical infrastructure • Central utility systems • Site work and facility upgrades • Experience with project management software such as MS Project, Primavera, or similar platforms Preferred • Experience supporting energy efficiency, infrastructure modernization, or performance contracting projects • OSHA-30 certification • Experience with commissioning activities, project controls, and energy systems implementation Ideal Background We are seeking professionals who demonstrate: • Strong leadership and team management abilities • Passion for sustainability, energy efficiency, and infrastructure modernization • Excellent communication and client management skills • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-performance environments • Strong problem-solving and risk mitigation capabilities • Flexibility to support irregular work hours during active implementation phases • Ability to travel up to 80% as required by project demands Compensation & Benefits • Competitive base salary • Annual bonus opportunity • Comprehensive benefits package • 401(k) with company match • PTO and paid holidays • Long-term career growth opportunities within a growing organization
