Job Title: Project Manager / Assistant Project Manager – Construction
Job Description
This role supports the full lifecycle of commercial and industrial construction projects, from preconstruction through closeout. The Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager collaborates closely with project teams, clients, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to a high standard of quality. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a small, rapidly growing business and to take on increasing responsibility as the company expands.
Responsibilities
• Manage and support construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring all phases progress smoothly and efficiently.
• Coordinate daily project activities with internal project teams, clients, and subcontractors to maintain clear communication and alignment.
• Oversee project schedules to keep work on track and ensure projects are completed on time.
• Monitor project budgets and costs, applying strong cost control practices to deliver projects within budget.
• Apply a strong understanding of construction processes and contracts to support effective project planning and execution.
• Assist with project estimation efforts, including reviewing scopes of work and supporting the development of cost estimates.
• Support project engineering activities, including reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
• Prepare, track, and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve design and field issues promptly.
• Collaborate with general contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to address project challenges and maintain project momentum.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including correspondence, logs, reports, and closeout materials.
• Support quality control efforts to ensure work meets project specifications and industry standards.
• Help manage multiple concurrent tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
• Contribute to a culture of safety by supporting safe work practices and adherence to project safety requirements.
Essential Skills
• 5+ years of experience managing commercial or industrial construction projects.
• Proven track record of delivering construction projects on time and within budget.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, contracts, and cost control principles.
• Hands-on project management experience in commercial construction.
• Experience with project coordination across project teams, clients, and subcontractors.
• Knowledge of construction management practices from preconstruction through closeout.
• Experience working with Requests for Information (RFIs) to resolve design and field issues.
• Background in engineering, project engineering, or mechanical engineering within a construction context.
• Experience working with or for a general contractor on commercial or industrial projects.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with project stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to quality and accuracy in project documentation and execution.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Experience in commercial construction project estimation.
• Experience in mechanical engineering as it relates to construction projects.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse project teams and external partners.
• Proactive, motivated, and detail-oriented approach to project work.
• Interest in growing with a small, rapidly expanding business and taking on increasing responsibility over time.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in an office environment that supports active construction projects. You will work closely with project teams, clients, and subcontractors, coordinating both in-office project planning and field-related activities. The work setting is fast-paced and dynamic, reflecting the needs of a small, rapidly growing business where adaptability and responsiveness are important. Standard business hours apply, with flexibility as needed to meet project deadlines and support ongoing construction activities.

This is a Permanent position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $125000.00/yr.
