Regional General Manager, Airports

As the Regional General Manager, you will provide strategic leadership and direction to deliver safe operations while driving excellence in operational performance and guest service through our contracted service partners across the designated region. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Airports, you will lead a team of Regional Managers and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to maintain regulatory compliance, foster positive relationships, and ensure a consistent, high-quality guest experience across all airport touchpoints within the region.

This role requires an experienced leader who holds service partners accountable for delivering WestJet's operational and service standards while balancing the needs of our guests, our partners, and our business. You will coach and support service partners in developing and executing airport action plans that address performance gaps, strengthen safety, and improve the guest experience.

The Regional General Manager will provide strategic oversight of airport operations across the region by identifying emerging risks, monitoring operational performance, and ensuring consistent execution of WestJet's standards and priorities. Through strong partnerships with service providers and airport authorities, you will drive continuous improvement, enhance operational resilience, and ensure our airports consistently deliver safe, reliable operations and an exceptional guest experience.

Key Deliverables Include

  • Foster a Safety Above All culture with Regional Managers by ensuring service partners achieve safety targets, monitoring performance trends, and addressing operational risks.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Regional Managers to deliver operational performance, guest satisfaction, employee engagement, and financial results.
  • Provide strategic oversight of airport operations, ensuring consistent execution of WestJet's operational and guest standards and priorities.
  • Deliver regional operational performance by achieving operational, guest experience, and financial objectives while driving continuous improvement through station action plans.
  • Provide governance through audits, operational reviews, and performance assessments to ensure adherence to standards, identify risks, and drive corrective actions.
  • Analyze operational performance and safety data to identify trends and risks, inform operational decision making, prioritize resources, and strengthen oversight across the region.
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for Regional Managers, providing leadership and decision support for complex operational, guest, commercial, safety, and irregular operations.
  • Partner with the Strategic Procurement team to develop service partner strategies, support partner selection, and ensure service partners deliver safe, high-performing, and cost-effective operations.
  • Build and maintain executive relationships with airport authorities, service partner leadership, government agencies, bargaining agents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead regional operational planning to ensure airports are resourced and operationally ready for seasonal demand, network growth, start-ups, restarts, service partner transitions, station closures, and other strategic initiatives.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging data and implementing initiatives that enhance operational performance, the guest experience, employee engagement, and financial results.
  • Participate as a member of the Airports Leadership Team to establish departmental priorities, contribute to strategic direction, and lead the development and execution of departmental initiatives.

Experience And Qualifications

  • 3+ years Airports leadership experience required
  • Business leadership experience with a significant level of internal and external dependencies and relationships.
  • Possess strong business acumen to deliver departmental plans including budget.
  • Proven ability to multitask & handle changing priorities.
  • Confident in presenting materials and reports to the next 2 levels.
  • Post-secondary education with a business application an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple leaders and locations simultaneously.
  • Proficient in PC based applications, Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel & spend time away for significant periods of time.
  • Project management skills considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of International regulations and guidelines (for example - TSA/Civil Aviation, UK High Commission etc.) an asset.
  • Proven track record of effectively influencing leadership teams via handling partners and developing strong direct leadership teams.
  • IATA SGHA experience would be beneficial.
