About The Role
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) at Jobot, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to provide personalized support, assisting with daily living activities, personal care, meal preparation, and community engagement. You will advocate for the individuals you support by coordinating services, participating in team meetings, and supporting their personal goals. This role involves applying behavior support strategies and following SCIP-R protocols, including physical interventions when necessary, to ensure safety and positive outcomes. Additionally, you will administer medications (post-AMAP certification) and document services accurately, maintaining detailed records of progress and health information. Ensuring a safe, clean, and engaging environment is essential, and you'll also support recreational activities, transportation, and household tasks. The role offers flexibility with full-time and part-time shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the location and program needs.
Qualifications
Candidates interested in this role should possess a high school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s license for NY, NJ, or CT is required, as transportation may be part of the job responsibilities. The ideal candidate demonstrates compassion, patience, and reliability, with strong interpersonal skills to connect effectively with individuals with disabilities. Basic computer skills are necessary for documentation and communication purposes. While experience working with the I/DD population is preferred, it is not mandatory, as comprehensive paid training will be provided. Certification in CPR, First Aid, AMAP, and SCIP-R is also required, which will be obtained through employer-sponsored training. Physical ability to lift or assist individuals as needed is essential to support their daily activities and safety.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering person-centered support tailored to each individual’s needs. Your duties include assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation, while encouraging independence and community participation. You will advocate for the individuals by coordinating services, attending team meetings, and supporting their personal goals. Applying behavior support strategies, including SCIP-R protocols, is critical to managing behaviors and ensuring safety. You will administer medications following health plans under RN guidance and document all services provided, including progress notes, behavioral plans, and medical charts accurately. Maintaining a safe, clean, and stimulating environment is vital, as is supporting recreational activities, transportation, and household chores. Flexibility is key, as shifts may include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the program schedule. Strong communication, reliability, and a compassionate approach are essential to succeed in this role.
