Overview
CX/UX Design Manager (Nursing) – Hybrid (ET/CT) at Wolters Kluwer Health. This player-coach leadership role leads design strategy and execution across the Nursing portfolio (education, practice, and professional development) in a complex, regulated, and high-impact domain. You will drive clarity, alignment, and data-driven decision making to deliver meaningful UX outcomes for nurses, students, educators, and institutions.
Responsibilities
• Strategy, Discovery, and Alignment: Own UX strategy for key Nursing initiatives across education and practice portfolios; use iterative discovery and experimentation to validate value, viability, usability, and feasibility early and continuously; frame complex inputs into clear problem statements; initiate and lead PreVis/visioning workshops; bring UX into the earliest stages of product thinking; partner with Product, Engineering, and AI teams; collaborate with UX Research to ensure insights guide decisions and that proposed solutions are validated.
• Delivery and Execution: Guide work from strategy through execution, including concepts, roadmaps, and shipped experiences; stay hands-on when needed during early discovery or high-ambiguity initiatives.
• Systems, Accessibility, and Emerging AI: Design across end-to-end journeys and platforms; embed accessibility (WCAG) into UX thinking from the start; reinforce consistent UX patterns across Nursing and the broader Health ecosystem; help shape AI-enabled experiences that are usable, trustworthy, and grounded in nursing workflows.
• Team Leadership and Growth: Lead and develop UX designers with clear expectations and ongoing coaching; evolve team structure and engagement models as the business scales; manage day-to-day resourcing, including oversight of contractors and external partners; demonstrate responsible stewardship of resources and delivery commitments; foster a collaborative, outcomes-oriented UX culture.
• Leadership, Influence, and Change: Act as a change agent to increase UX maturity across partners and teams; influence without authority through credibility and facilitation; represent UX in cross-functional and leadership forums; communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs in executive-ready narratives.
Qualifications
Required
• Experience leading UX in complex, ambiguous product environments
• Strong facilitation skills with a track record of driving alignment and decisions
• Ability to influence cross-functional partners without formal authority
• History of impactful, user-centered product experiences
• Strong product thinking and business awareness
• Comfort operating as a player-coach
Preferred
• Experience in healthcare, education, or other regulated industries
• Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive design practices
• Experience contributing to AI-enabled or emerging technology experiences
• Background in systems thinking or service design
Technical & Craft Foundations
• Experience with design systems and scalable UX patterns
• Working knowledge of WCAG accessibility standards
• Proficiency with Figma and current best practices (auto-layout, local components, etc.)
• Adobe Creative Suite familiarity a plus
• Understanding of agile development and cross-functional delivery
• Foundational knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3 to support collaboration with Engineering
• Experience or working knowledge in AI spaces, including designing or partnering on AI-enabled experiences and understanding usability, trust, and workflow integration
What Success Looks Like
• UX engagement earlier and more consistent in product discovery
• PreVis and visioning workshops drive alignment and momentum
• Accessibility and usability are considered early, not retrofitted
• UX helps shape responsible, effective AI-enabled experiences
• UX is viewed as a vital strategic product partner, not a downstream service
Next Steps
Portfolio required: resume and portfolio demonstrating experience leading complex, cross-functional product work, including examples of strategic thinking, facilitation, and shipped outcomes, not just visual design artifacts.
