Designer - Utilities

RK&K is seeking Designer for our Baltimore, MD office to support Utility design, relocations, and coordination of projects utilizing AutoCAD and/or MicroStation platforms as design tools. A Designer will provide technical support to the engineering team, utilizing a combination of industry experience and academic knowledge. They will execute tasks essential to the completion of assignments, demonstrating a solid understanding of technical principles and practice. Essential Functions • Develop technically accurate and deliverable computer-generated drawings based on direction and engineering sketches; preparation of contract drawings and color renderings; maintain adherence to company and client CADD standards and procedures • Support project research, agency requirements, drawing preparation, organizing CADD files, drafts, design plans, and details • Use computer-aided drafting software to develop layouts, drawings, and designs that meet engineering specifications • Supports engineers and designers of all disciplines through a variety of tasks including proposal drawings, completing redlines, and sketches • Ability to read and understand construction drawings • Review engineering drawings, analyze design and retrieve information to complete drawing, layout, or design • Support surveying data processing and assist in the development of plats and designs using CADD technology • Complete field reconnaissance for different projects • Interact with customers effectively to ensure they have a thorough understanding of the engineering/design project Required Skills And Experience • High School Diploma or Equivalent • Ability to read and interpret basic technical documents and apply drafting/CADD techniques to project tasks • 0-2 years of relevant experience • Possesses good verbal and written communication skills • Ability to effectively present information to individuals and groups Preferred Skills And Experience • Continuing education or college level training • Experience in Utility Engineering or Construction industry • 2+ years of proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation CADD platforms • Basic understanding of geometry/trigonometry • Detail oriented and able to follow QA/QC procedures • Pipeline construction drawing experience • Understanding of GIS Mapping software (ESRI, ArcGIS, GE Smallworld) • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) • Experience using collaborative virtual applications (Microsoft Teams, Slack, Zoom) Other Duties This job description indicates the general nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other essential functions (as covered under ADA).
