Your Role as the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON – RN)
Skilled Nursing
As the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), you’ll partner closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to oversee clinical operations, nursing services, and regulatory compliance within our skilled nursing community. This role is ideal for a Registered Nurse (RN) who is ready to deepen their leadership impact while remaining actively engaged in resident care and team development.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring high-quality clinical outcomes, survey readiness, staff competency, and consistent care delivery — all while supporting a collaborative, resident-centered culture.
Summary
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for assisting in the leadership, supervision, and development of licensed nurses and certified nursing staff to ensure quality resident care, safety, and compliance across all clinical areas.
This role supports the administration of the nursing program within an Americare Skilled Nursing community to maintain clinical excellence and compliance with CMS, state, federal, and Americare standards. The ADON collaborates with the DON, Medical Director, interdisciplinary team, and administrative leadership to ensure effective care planning, accurate documentation, appropriate staffing, and continuous quality improvement.
The ADON may also assist with policy development and implementation, performance standards, departmental workflows, staff education, audit readiness, clinical documentation oversight, and evaluation of nursing service effectiveness and efficiency.
This Role May Also Be Known As
Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON – Skilled Nursing), RN Nurse Manager, RN Clinical Supervisor, Assistant Nurse Manager, or Nursing Leadership RN.
What You’ll Do
Assist the Director of Nursing with the clinical leadership and day-to-day administration of nursing services
Support the supervision, coaching, and development of RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other clinical team members
Help ensure compliance with CMS regulations, state and federal guidelines, and Americare policies
Assist with resident assessments, care planning, MDS coordination support, and monitoring changes in condition
Participate in clinical rounds to assess resident status, staffing coverage, documentation accuracy, and care quality
Support medication administration systems and controlled substance management
Assist with quality assurance, QAPI initiatives, audits, and preparation for surveys and inspections
Support orientation, competency validation, in-services, and ongoing education for nursing staff
Communicate significant changes in resident condition to nursing leadership, providers, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members
Collaborate with therapy, social services, dietary, and leadership teams to support holistic resident care
Assist with staffing coordination and provide leadership coverage as needed, including on-call support
What You Bring
Education
Graduate of an approved school of nursing
Licensure / Certification
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license required
Maintains current state registration and required continuing education
Experience & Skills
Prior experience in skilled nursing or long-term care strongly preferred
Knowledge of CMS regulations, survey processes, and clinical documentation standards
Strong clinical judgment, leadership presence, and organizational skills
Ability to balance hands-on clinical support with administrative and supervisory responsibilities
Effective communication skills with residents, families, clinical teams, and leadership

Physical Demands
Stand, sit, walk, bend, reach, crouch, kneel, and change positions frequently
Lift up to 25 lbs. and assist with resident transfers as needed
Push/pull up to 100 lbs. and maneuver resident wheelchairs (up to 350 lbs.)
Assist in lowering residents to the floor during falls using proper procedures
Utilize required safety equipment, including gait belts, mechanical lifts, and PPE
Perform tasks requiring good vision, hearing, and verbal communication
