About the Opportunity The AI Software Engineer role within the innovation division is responsible for advancing AI model applications by developing data tools and expertise that enhance model capabilities. This full-stack position involves prototyping user interfaces and building scalable backend systems to serve multiple clients. Reporting directly to the CTO, the role allows for independent work while collaborating with cross-functional teams to prototype, test, and deploy innovative AI solutions that impact retail use cases. Responsibilities Application Development: Write production-level TypeScript code utilizing modern AI tools. Full-Stack Prototyping: Develop full-stack prototypes with functional front-end interfaces suitable for stakeholder demonstrations. AI Engineering: Perform prompt engineering and rigorous testing with large language models such as Claude, Gemini, and OpenAI. Context & Agent Design: Engineer context to determine relevant data structures for language models and design intelligent agentic workflows. Performance Monitoring: Build systems dedicated to monitoring and testing language model performance and outputs. Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to support model improvements and feature deployment. Architecture & Scalability: Design and implement scalable, maintainable solutions across multiple enterprise clients. Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership in discussions regarding language model usage, safety, and overall project direction. Requirements Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field. Professional Experience: Minimum of 4 years of software development experience, preferably with exposure to retail, e-commerce, or applied AI technologies. Core Tech Stack: Experience with React, TypeScript, and SQL sufficient to build fully functioning user interfaces and backend integrations. AI Frameworks: Hands-on experience working directly with language models and prompt engineering via Claude, Gemini, or OpenAI APIs. Engineering Philosophy: Experience with or direct enthusiasm for agentic software engineering and the systematic use of AI coding tools. System Design: Clear understanding of system design, backend scalability, APIs, and open-source packages. Evaluation Metrics: Familiarity with evaluating model performance using structured, metrics-driven tests. Operation Style: Ability to operate effectively within ambiguous product definitions with senior engineering support. Demonstrates sound judgment on when to trust or challenge language model outputs backed by core engineering knowledge. Communication: Proficient communication skills, including strong asynchronous written communication capabilities.
