About The Role
The Lead Data Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Enterprise Data & Analytics Team, spearheading efforts to modernize and transform the organization’s data infrastructure. This position involves designing, developing, and deploying scalable, reliable data solutions that support the organization’s mission-critical analytics and reporting needs. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with business and analytics teams to enhance data models, streamline data workflows, and implement best practices in data governance and architecture. As a technical leader, the Lead Data Engineer will also mentor junior team members, promote innovative data engineering practices, and ensure the seamless deployment and operation of data pipelines across cloud-based platforms, primarily AWS.
Qualifications
4-year college degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in data engineering, business intelligence, or related fields
Hands-on experience with database technologies and data warehouse schema design patterns, particularly snowflake and star schemas
Proficiency with cloud-based databases, especially AWS services such as Redshift, RDS, S3, EC2, EKS, and Zero-ETL
Advanced SQL skills for complex query writing and optimization
Strong programming skills in Python
Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Duo
Proficiency in creating and managing ETL/ELT jobs
Knowledge of DevOps tools and methodologies, including Git, Artifactory, and CI/CD pipelines
Experience with Agile development practices
Preferred experience with DBT and developing integrations across multiple systems and APIs
Leadership experience managing data engineering teams, mentoring junior engineers, and establishing best practices
Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
Strong communication skills and a passion for supporting the Red Cross mission

Responsibilities
Collaborate with analytics and business teams to enhance data models, improve data accessibility, and support data-driven decision making
Design, develop, and implement scalable data solutions aligned with data governance standards and architectural roadmaps
Build, test, and maintain data integration solutions, ensuring automation and documentation of processes
Manage automated deployment workflows using Git pipelines, ensuring efficient version control and deployment practices
Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines for performance, reliability, and data quality issues
Develop and implement data quality frameworks to identify and resolve data-related issues promptly
Serve as a technical leader by mentoring team members through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to streamline deployment workflows and ensure smooth data operations
Perform data analysis to troubleshoot and resolve data inconsistencies or errors
Stay updated with emerging data engineering technologies and incorporate best practices into team workflows
