About The Role The Senior Data Engineer at Ziply Fiber is responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of production data pipelines and orchestration workflows that underpin critical functions such as billing, analytics, and operational reporting. This role is inherently hands-on and operational, requiring active management of existing SQL-based ETL processes and scheduled workflows. The successful candidate will participate in an on-call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve failures, implement monitoring and data quality controls, and drive pragmatic modernization efforts within a hybrid environment that combines legacy systems with modern cloud-based solutions. The role demands a proactive approach to maintaining, improving, and scaling data infrastructure, with a focus on operational excellence, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or related roles. Strong proficiency in SQL Server (T-SQL), including complex query development and stored procedures used in production ETL workflows. Experience with Linux/Unix environments and scripting technologies. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python for data engineering tasks. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics) is a plus. Experience supporting production analytics/data warehouse environments (SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake, etc.), including troubleshooting and performance tuning. Hands-on experience with enterprise workflow orchestration and scheduling tools, preferably AutoSys. Proven ability to operate and support production ETL/data pipelines, including incident management and root cause analysis. Ability to query and integrate data from heterogeneous sources such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL. Knowledge of data modeling, schema design, and data architecture best practices. Understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards. Ability to work independently in a remote setting across different time zones and collaborate effectively. Experience with version control systems like GitLab. Basic familiarity with data wrangling and ETL tools such as Alteryx is desirable. Responsibilities Own and optimize scheduled workflows, managing dependencies, resource controls, and alerting mechanisms. Participate in an on-call rotation to troubleshoot and resolve production pipeline failures, ensuring minimal downtime. Build and maintain data validation checks and reconciliation controls to uphold data integrity across critical datasets. Support SOX compliance by designing, documenting, and evidencing controls over financial and billing data pipelines, collaborating with internal audit teams. Maintain and enhance existing production data pipelines involved in ingestion, transformation, and storage of large datasets, implementing modernization strategies as appropriate. Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems for data pipelines to proactively detect and resolve issues. Automate manual operational steps to improve workflow reliability and recovery times. Optimize data models for analytics and business intelligence reporting needs. Build and sustain scalable, high-performance data infrastructure ensuring reliability and security. Implement data governance best practices, ensuring compliance with security standards and regulations. Work with diverse data sources, including databases, APIs, and streaming platforms, to integrate structured and unstructured data. Collaborate with data analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and develop suitable solutions. Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence. Maintain comprehensive documentation of data engineering processes and workflows. Perform additional duties as required to support organizational growth and technological evolution.
