About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Java Full Stack Engineer to join our dynamic Investment Experience Technology team at USAA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a startup-minded environment focused on developing cutting-edge investment solutions. As part of our team, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing scalable, high-impact software that enhances the digital experience for our members and financial advisors. You will collaborate with talented professionals to deliver innovative, digital-first tools using a modern tech stack, including Go, Java, APIs, and OpenShift.
This position requires a candidate who thrives in an agile, fast-paced environment and is passionate about creating seamless, intelligent, and scalable digital solutions. The role offers a flexible work environment with a requirement to be in the office four days per week. The position can be based in San Antonio, TX; Plano, TX; Phoenix, AZ; or Charlotte, NC. Please note that relocation assistance is not available for this role.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, with at least four years of software development experience demonstrating technical expertise in relevant disciplines. Candidates should have at least two years of experience delivering complete technology solutions across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including leading code and design reviews. A foundational understanding of technologies such as Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python is essential.
Additional qualifications include developing business acumen in operations, risk management, and industry trends, as well as experience troubleshooting production issues. A basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools is preferred. Certifications from recognized coding bootcamps or organizations such as CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT, or eFIT are also considered valuable assets.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions aligned with business requirements and technical standards.
Investigate and resolve intricate application and system issues to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Conduct systems analysis to identify operational improvements, recommending policy and procedural changes as needed.
Prepare and install complex solutions by defining system specifications, standards, and programming protocols.
Follow the software development lifecycle, adhering to best practices and quality standards.
Participate in design reviews, contributing to the development of key system design principles.
Mentor junior engineers and review peer code to promote best practices and continuous improvement.
Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in compliance with risk and regulatory policies.
