POSITION SUMMARY: The Program Director will work directly under the supervision of the Director of School-Based Programs and Director of Operations. The Program Director will be responsible for the oversight and management related to; programming, operations, fiscal related matters, creation of and maintenance of partnership relationships, in addition to the direct supervision of staff within the COMPASS/ SONYC division. The Program Director will encourage, promote and provide a safe, caring, welcoming, structured, and enriching environment for all participants, while simultaneously fostering a creative, social and academic environment. The Program Director must be familiar with a wide variety of social services and available community resources, with a passion for community outreach, strong attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Program Director will be responsible for the management of community outreach associated with growth and maintenance specifically related to the COMPASS/ SONYC programs within UAU. The Program Director must have the ability to develop and maintain relationships with staff members, community stakeholders, participants, parents and school administration. The Program Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with all UAU, DYCD, DOE and DOH standards.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
• Responsible for supervision, management, budgeting, purchasing, planning, implementation, and coordination of school-based After-school program, Holiday, and Summer Programs.
• Plan and maintain overall delivery of quality programming including but not limited to activities, operations, enrollment, outreach, attendance in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.
• Oversight of program staff, program operations, services, and the implementation of programs and/other processes (e.g. site rules, discipline, site schedule, space requirements, etc.) for the purpose of providing services within established time frames and in compliance with related requirements as per the directives of the Program Supervisor and Director of Operations.
• Ensure efficient and effective departmental workflow while meeting service deliverables for 90 or more participants.
• Meet either weekly, monthly or and as needed one on one meetings to review projects, deadlines, issues, concerns, workflows, etc. with Program Supervisor and Assistant Program Director.
• Data Entry, recordkeeping and file maintenance in accordance with UAU, DYCD and NYC Department of Health as required; Maintain all records, including attendance rosters, participant files, staff files, and permit files accordingly. Ensuring all records are kept confidential and properly securely stored.
• Participate in ongoing professional development as directed by the Program Supervisor.
• Develop and implement short and long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the program.
• Collaborate with Fiscal, Administration, and Program Supervisor to develop and support the monthly the management of annual operational budget.
• Development and implementation of program related forms and documents for programming activities, enrollment, record keeping or other various types of documents as needed.
• Creates and maintains a well-organized, clean, safe, and attractive learning environment. Ensures cleanliness and maintenance of assigned UAU classroom spaces and work areas in conjunction with the school maintenance department and UAU personnel.
• Plan, organize, and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies. Place orders in a timely manner.
• Ensure program activities comply and operate with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and professional standards as defined by DYCD, UAU, and other governing agencies.
• Oversee program operations to ensure compliance with UAU, NYC Department of Health and DYCD policies and procedures, including ratio requirements.
• Work directly with the Human Resources department on all related HR items such as hiring, disciplinary and conflict resolution, annual performance reviews, timecard and scheduling matters, terminations, investigations etc…
• Coordinate and manage required compliance trainings for new staff and existing staff as needed.
• Management and oversight of staff schedules in conjunction with program and operational needs.
• Develop collaborative relationships with school administration staff, stakeholders and community members.
• Develop and maintain open and frequent communication with parents, school administration, DYCD and Administration.
• Abide by and enforce all compliance and safety protocols as outlined by the NYC Department of Health, NYC Department of Education, OCFS, FDNY, DYCD and UAU.
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Required Education Qualifications: An associate’s degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field, or a New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential or a School-Age Child Care Credential (SAC) or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period.
• Preferred Education Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or related field.
** Candidates that possess the Preferred Education qualifications will be required to successfully complete the required New York State School-Age Care (SAC Credentials) within 18 months of starting the position as Program Director.
• Required - 2+ years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
• Required - 2+ years in supervisory capacity in childcare program or related field of work.
• Obtain and continuously maintain all necessary security clearances throughout the term of employment.
• Must be culturally competent- ability to understand, be sensitive to the needs of, communicate with and effectively interact with people across cultures.
• Familiar with the regulations and requirements set forth to DYCD, NYC Department of Education, NYC Department of Health and aware of the compliance requirements as enacted by Federal, State and local jurisdictions.
• Ability to demonstrate excellent employee rapport and community leadership.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in basic computer usage, i.e., Windows, Microsoft Suite, Google Apps (drive, sheets, docs) etc..
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently
• Willing to take initiative and be flexible when needed
• Excels working in a collaborative environment to achieve target objects and outcomes
