Middle & Upper School English Teacher

St. Mary Academy – Bay View seeks a full-time Middle & Upper School English Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. Key Responsibilities • Designing and delivering engaging coursework in reading, writing, literary analysis, and rhetoric across Middle School and Upper School grade levels; • Developing curriculum using the Understanding by Design (UbD) framework; • Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and incorporating a wide range of literary genres and diverse voices; • Assessing student learning to inform instruction and provide timely, constructive feedback to students, families, and administration; • Integrating instructional and recordkeeping strategies using Google Suite and/or other relevant educational technology; • Creating instructional programming that promotes students' academic, social emotional, and spiritual growth within an all-girls school environment; • Participating actively in department meetings, curriculum review, and school-wide initiatives; • Being flexible, open-minded, and a self-driven team member; and • The position also involves collaborating with a team of teachers on extracurricular programming to provide faculty support to a club or activity. Qualifications • BA/BS degree in English or related field, Master's degree preferred; • Certification in Teaching English; • Knowledge and experience teaching a rigorous English curriculum; • Knowledge of portfolio development and presentation practices; • Experience maintaining a ceramics studio and operating related equipment; • Familiarity with art history through contemporary art and design; • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; and • A collaborative mindset and commitment to supporting students as artists and learners. Education & Experience • BA/BS degree in English or related field, Master's degree preferred; • Certification in Teaching English; • Knowledge and experience teaching a rigorous English curriculum; • High energy level, creative, and forward-thinking; • Strong work ethic and a caring temperament; • Understands and appreciates the developmental range of the age group; • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks; • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; • Collaborative skills, including the ability to work with colleagues and parents; and • A sense of humor, warmth, and a love of working with young women and their families.
