The role as Ag Insight Data Scientist encompasses a wide range of activities, building actuarial models of agriculture and livestock insurance risk, reinsurance pricing analysis, interaction with our Broking teams, clients and reinsurer as well as research to improve those models. This broad-based introduction to the reinsurance sector will position you for significant future growth opportunities within our firm. How you'll make an impact This role will provide expertise in Agricultural model building, and the associated data. The development of our modeling for US Agricultural Insurance requires experience in building models of and in-depth knowledge of the US Agricultural insurance products and market. Specifically, commodity price models, fund designation modeling, agricultural insurance pricing models and the impact of risk management tools on portfolio risk. Our team-oriented culture will promote development, enabling you to gain a balanced skill set, including acumen in analysis and negotiations. As an VP you will provide dynamic support for our clients and prospects to help them optimize their business. You will also be asked to explain technical concepts and results to clients, prospects and reinsurers to gain support for Ag Insight. As you gain experience and demonstrate your capabilities, we provide you with increased client interaction and more responsibility. Account Analysis & Support: • Develop analysis for Ag Insight, and the US Agriculture practice to establish Gallagher as a thought leader in the reinsurance and primary marketplace • Lead the design and development of systems to exchange US agriculture data with counter parties to support modeling and risk management processes • Lead Agriculture Model development for crop and assist with livestock model development • Perform analysis to develop loss models, fund designation and risk management models for client business, estimate reinsurance pricing, and determine optimal reinsurance structures given client risk profile and underwriting strategy • Present analyses in clear terms appropriate to the audience • Work closely with other analytical associates across Gallagher Re, including other actuaries, catastrophe modelers, rating agency advisory, ERM and capital markets associates About You Problem Solving: • Able to apply advanced mathematical / statistical concepts and techniques • Sourcing, cleaning and organizing agricultural data into useful structures • Skilled in using Microsoft Excel, SQL and other software • Skilled in R • Considers issues in depth, not just superficially • Finds effective, creative solutions • Applies high standard of quality control • Seeks assistance / support as appropriate Interpersonal & Communication Skills: • Builds strong working relationships with brokers and clients • Demonstrates good listening skills • Exhibits positive attitude • Clearly explains technical concepts in appropriate detail Required: • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience; 9+ years’ related experience • Extensive experience building statistical/simulation models of Agricultural insurance risk and designing effective displays of results • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SQL, and R and/or Python • Some travel required, including some overnight travel.
