About the Role
We're hiring a Senior Manager, International Indirect Tax Compliance to own and continuously improve our end-to-end international indirect tax compliance process. This role will be responsible for driving timely, accurate compliance; maintaining audit readiness; and building scalable processes that improve visibility, control, and efficiency across the Tax function. You will oversee obligations across VAT, GST, DST, and other indirect tax regimes as OpenAI continues to expand globally.
You will partner closely with colleagues across Finance and external service providers to ensure that tax compliance is well-controlled, well-documented, and supported by reliable data and processes. The ideal candidate brings deep international indirect tax compliance experience, strong judgment, and a genuine passion for leveraging technology to streamline and improve compliance operations. A strong interest in automation, analytics, and process improvement will be important for success in this role.
This role is based in Dublin, Ireland. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Own OpenAI’s global indirect tax compliance operating model and end-to-end compliance lifecycle across VAT, GST, DST, and related regimes, ensuring timely, accurate, and controlled compliance across an expanding portfolio of jurisdictions.
Lead registration lifecycle management, including threshold monitoring, obligation assessments, new registrations, amendments, and deregistrations, with clear governance over OpenAI’s global registration footprint.
Oversee ongoing compliance activities, including data collection and validation, return preparation and review, tax payments, reconciliations, statutory reporting, and documented approvals, with clear accountability across internal teams and external providers.
Identify opportunities to enhance compliance processes and technology, building the business case for initiatives that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, reduce risk, and support future growth.
Assess compliance readiness by proactively identifying gaps in processes, controls, data, systems, and resourcing, and driving remediation efforts to support scalable growth and new market launches.
Select, onboard, and oversee external compliance providers and advisors, establishing clear expectations, monitoring service quality and performance, and escalating risks and issues early.
Serve as the primary point of contact for indirect tax audits, examinations, and tax authority inquiries, coordinating cross-functional responses and driving matters through resolution.
Strengthen the global control environment by designing and enhancing review procedures, governance frameworks, reconciliations, and monitoring activities that support continuous audit readiness.
Partner with Finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to communicate emerging compliance risks, regulatory developments, and recommendations, translating complex tax requirements into practical business actions.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
10+ years of progressive indirect tax experience, including substantial experience overseeing international indirect tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions within a multinational organization.
Deep expertise in global indirect tax regimes, including VAT, GST, DST, and related compliance obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
Demonstrated success designing and improving compliance processes, controls, and governance frameworks to support a scalable global compliance function.
Experience implementing and managing international compliance requirements beyond return filings, including e-invoicing regimes, local reporting obligations, and other market-specific compliance requirements.
Experience managing external advisors and compliance providers, with the ability to hold partners accountable, identify risks early, and drive timely execution.
A strong track record managing indirect tax audits, tax authority examinations, and controversy matters through effective resolution.
Proven ability to leverage technology, automation, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and support the evolution of a global compliance function.
